Jesus, a kind Lord (Mark 5:21-43)
Sermon preached by Julien Grenier, minister with Agape, on 6th Feb 2022
We are studying the Gospel of Mark, which is very much focused on the actions of Jesus. We see him going from place to place, performing miracles. We said the principle reason for his coming is not to heal the physical body but to save people through the Gospel. We also said the Good News can also be Bad News for those who do not want anything to do with Jesus. Two weeks ago we saw Jesus teaching from a boat in the lake, using agricultural paraboles adapted to his audience. One week ago we saw Jesus crossing that same lake to heal a man possessed by demons. We could see that his authority applies both to the natural and spiritual world.
Today our text starts at Mark 5:21 and goes to verse 43. Let’s read the text.
This text presents two new people for whom Jesus will perform two miracles. He starts interacting with Jairus, then he addresses the needs of a bleeding woman, then he returns to Jairus and his child. It’s a kind of miracle sandwich. Through this sandwich, we will see :
- Faith in Jesus reunites social classes
- Jesus, the Son of God who welcomes us warmly
- Obstacles that could prevent us from coming to Jesus
- Abandoning our own plans for entering into his Grand Plan
